Immer mehr Menschen machen es wie ich und holen, um Erkältungskrankheiten vorzubeugen, wieder die dicken Winterjacken und -pullover aus ihrem Keller hervor.
Das Jahresband wird täglich kürzer ohne dass es richtig warm wird.
Die Klimaveränderung ist unbestritten.
Doch ich bezweifle stark, dass in Mittel- und Nordeuropa hiermit eine Erwärmung einhergeht.
Es besteht ein kausaler Zusammenhang zwischen dem Klimawandel und der wissenschaftlich belegten Abschwächung des Golfstroms.
Wie eine gewaltige Umwälzpumpe transportieren Strömungen des Atlantiks warmes Wasser in den Norden und kaltes Wasser in den Süden. Teil dieses Strömungssystems ist auch der Golfstrom, der für das meist relativ milde Klima in Mittel- und Nordeuropa sorgt.
Forscher haben Belege dafür entdeckt, dass diese riesige Meeresströmung deutlich und nachhaltig schwächer wird.
Beobachtungen weisen darauf hin, dass die Umwälzung in den letzten Jahrzehnten langsamer war als jemals zuvor im vergangenen Jahrhundert, wahrscheinlich sogar im vergangenen Jahrtausend.
Zu dieser Abschwächung hat offenbar die zunehmende Eisschmelze auf Grönland beigetragen, die durch den Klimawandel verursacht wird.
Das Süßwasser verdünnt das Meerwasser. Weniger salziges Wasser ist weniger dicht und sinkt daher weniger schnell in die Tiefe.
Der Masseverlust des grönländischen Eisschildes verlangsamt den Golfstrom. Und dieser Effekt nimmt stetig zu.
Eine weitere Verlangsamung der Strömung könnte höchst dramatische Folgen für das Klima in Europa haben.
Wenn sich die Strömung weiterhin abschwächt, könnte sie sogar vollständig zusammenbrechen. In diesem Fall würde in Mittel- und Nordeuropa eine neue kleine Eiszeit mit all ihren Konsequenzen drohen.
Die atlantische Umwälzung wird schon lange als mögliches Kipp-Element im Erdsystem betrachtet.
Als Kippen wird hierbei eine vergleichsweise rasche und nahezu unumkehrbare Veränderung bezeichnet.
Viele Experten schätzen dieses Risiko als hoch ein.
Den sogenannten „Klimaaktivisten“, denen im Grunde nicht das Klima, sondern ihre eigene Publicity wichtig ist, sei ins Stammbuch geschrieben, dass das Klima nicht den Menschen benötigt, um sich zu schützen.
Die Natur und das Klima besitzen Mittel und Wege, um sich vor dem Menschen zu schützen, wenn ihr Geduldsfaden gerissen kist.
