mit großer Sorge verfolge ich die aktuellen politischen Bestrebungen, das Informationsfreiheitsgesetz (IFG) grundlegend umzubauen oder gar abzuschaffen. Dieser Schritt wäre nicht nur ein Rückfall in alte Verwaltungsgewohnheiten, sondern ein direkter Angriff auf Transparenz, Bürgerrechte und demokratische Kontrolle.
Das IFG ist seit 2006 ein zentrales Instrument, das Bürgerinnen und Bürgern ermöglicht, staatliches Handeln nachzuvollziehen. Es schafft die Grundlage dafür, dass Verwaltung nicht hinter verschlossenen Türen agiert, sondern nachvollziehbar, überprüfbar und rechenschaftspflichtig bleibt. Wer dieses Gesetz schwächt, schwächt bewusst die demokratische Kontrolle.
Besonders irritierend ist, dass die geplanten Änderungen mit dem Argument des „Bürokratieabbaus“ begründet werden. In Wahrheit würde die Abschaffung des IFG nicht Bürokratie abbauen, sondern Kontrolle abbauen – und zwar die Kontrolle der Bürger über staatliches Handeln. Das ist ein fundamentaler Unterschied.
Strukturell bewegen wir uns damit in eine Richtung, die an die Verwaltungslogik der ehemaligen DDR erinnert: Herrschaftswissen, abgeschottete Behörden, fehlende Transparenz und Entscheidungen, die ohne öffentliche Kontrolle getroffen werden. Niemand behauptet, wir lebten in einer DDR 2.0 – aber es ist ebenso falsch, die Parallelen zu ignorieren, wenn staatliche Informationsrechte zurückgedrängt werden sollen.
Gerade in Zeiten wachsender politischer Unsicherheit und Vertrauensverlust in staatliche Institutionen wäre es das falsche Signal, Transparenzrechte zu schwächen. Eine moderne Demokratie braucht offene Verwaltung, nachvollziehbare Entscheidungen und Bürger, die informiert mitreden können. Wer das IFG abbaut, baut demokratische Teilhabe ab.
Ich fordere die politisch Verantwortlichen auf, diesen Kurs zu überdenken. Transparenz ist kein Luxus, sondern eine demokratische Pflicht. Ein Staat, der seine Bürger ernst nimmt, versteckt seine Informationen nicht – er teilt sie.
